News:
  • White House ordered to issue reports. A federal judge ordered the Bush administration to issue two scientific reports on climate change. The order was the result of a lawsuit brought by environmentalists against the White House for failing to produce the documents.
  • The Grist List. The Grist.org has complied a list of top 15 green colleges and universities. See if your alma mater made the list. The University of California, Chico in the hometown of More Hip Than Hippie, made the list at number 8.

  • Melting away. Arctic sea ice is melting at a record rate, according to Mark Serreze, a senior research scientist with the National Snow and Ice Data Center.

  • World's first carbon free city. Abu Dhabi is planning to build the world's first carbon-neutral city called Masdar.
News:
  • Printers and your health. A new study has found that particles emitted by some laser printers could be harmful to your health.
  • Rare dolphin probably extinct. The Chinese Yangtze River dolphin is probably extinct according to a team of researchers who failed to find any evidence of the rare dolphin during an extensive six-week search in late 2006.
  • GM working on plug-in hybrid car. GM will begin road testing its Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid in Spring of 2008, and hopes production will begin by 2010.

  • Go green at the X Games. Home Depot is continuing the eco-friendly tradition at the X Games by using green materials to build the ramps at this year's competition.
  • Shop till you drop. The Fintura Corporation has introduced the GreenPay MasterCard, which rewards consumer spending with carbon offsets. The offsets are bought from the Chicago Climate Exchange.
  • Vegans "taste better". A new study by the University of Canterbury found that many vegans prefer to only date other vegans - dubbing the crowd vegansexuals.
  • Make a video, change the world. Enter Current TV's Alliance Ecospot Contest by making a 15, 30, or 60 second ad about climate crisis and your video could be shown all over the world.
  • Take home some panda poop. If you're planning on making the trip to China for the 2008 Summer Olympics, you might want to pick up a souvenir made from panda poop.

  • Bottled-Water Industry takes a stand. In response the mounting protests against the bottled water industry, the International Bottled Water Association is launching a series of ads focusing on the health benefits of drinking water.

  • California adopts tough diesel laws. California has put into place the nation's toughest regulations on off-highway diesel vehicles like bulldozers, airport baggage trucks, and ski resort snowcats.

The first Teenie Weenie Greenie™ of this week comes from Caroline. She uses a wind-up kitchen timer instead of digital one, it's louder and doesn't use batteries. She also started timing her dishwasher so she can stop it and open it to let the dishes air dry.

The second Teenie Weenie Greenie™ is to try using Blackle.com, the energy saving version of Google that uses a black screen. If everyone used Blackle instead of Google, it would save 750 mega-watt hours a year!
